Critical Key Worker Driver Training suspended until further notice.

COVID-19 UPDATE

Following a week of reflection, talking to colleagues and various agencies, plus tighter Government restrictions to combat the spread of Covid-19, which we fully support, we have decided suspended all driver training for Critical Key Workers on our books until further notice.

We have stated from the start that we wanted to support those working on the front line during the pandemic as best as we can, and for some the ability to drive would assist them in performing their tasks better and shortened their travelling times.

However, although yesterday, 30 March at 19.20hrs, the gov.uk website still stated that Key Workers are allowed to apply for Emergency Driving Tests, there seems to be little clarity and guidance for now on when or where these tests may take place. We fully understand that the DVSA has currently its own challenges to meet with staffing and rearranging recently cancelled tests nationwide in what can only be described as tasking and uncertain times, and as such we cannot fault them.

Because of the tighter public health restrictions on “social distancing” and “necessary travel”, we currently cannot warrant to be on the road whilst awaiting clarification from the government on how Emergency Driving Teats, as well as the relevant preparatory driver training for them, can be carried out without being in direct breach of such restrictions, especially if an Emergency Test would be taking place outside the local area.

We have spoken to all our Key Worker students and are most grateful for their understanding.

May we also take this opportunity to thank the local community and public at large for their kindness and understanding when we were out on occasion, even though many of our industry colleagues had already suspended their operations. It meant a lot to our students, for an hour of driving lesson was not just a means of working towards their driving licences but also a much welcome break from their otherwise hectic and stressful schedules as doctors, teachers and nurses.

We will keep you posted and are looking forward seeing you all out there when restrictions are lifted.

In the meantime, please be safe and follow public health advice.

Thank you once again for all your support and understanding.
